Gestational diabetes

Gestational diabetes is diabetes that occurs during pregnancy in women. Gestational diabetes occurs in about 4% of all pregnancies. It is usually diagnosed at any stages of pregnancy but is more common in the second half and occurs in women who have no prior history of diabetes.  In most cases Gestational diabetes is picked up when blood sugar level is tested during screening. Some women may develop symptoms if their blood sugar level becomes too high. This may lead to difficulties during the delivery and increases the chances of needing a caesarean section.
