Emilio Herrera is PhD from Complutense University (Madrid), Emeritus Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Faculties of Pharmacy and Medicine, University San Pablo-CEU in Madrid, Spain and Doctor Honoris Causa in Medicine by Lund University (Sweden). He carried out his Post-doctoral studies in Harvard University and Northwestern University Medical Schools. He has 282 peer-reviewed papers with IF (total IF by JCR-2009, 755.20) and 77 book chapters, having a h-index of 37 and has directed 49 PhD thesis.

Andres Fontalba Navas has completed his PhD in Medicine from Malaga University in 2011. He is currently the Research Director of Northern Almeria Health Area and Honorary Associate Professor of Malaga University. He has published more than 15 papers in the fields of Epidemiology.

As a long-term researcher in endocrine and metabolic diseases, Professor Xiao has published over 50 papers in core Chinese and foreign periodicals such as Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM), Brain Research, etc. Moreover, he took the lead in treating Graves’ diseases by introducing thyroid arterial embolization, and for the first time ever, he reported relevant findings of using innovative methods to treat Graves’ diseases in the prestigious Journal of JCEM. His clinical treatments of American and British patients with stubborn hyperthyroidism have been proved very successful and specially reported by CNN, causing profound international resonance. In June of 2012, he published another academic thesis “Circulating MicroRNA Profiles as Potential Biomarkers for Diagnosis of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma” in JCEM which has received high attention and positive response among medical scientists home and abroad.

Dr. Yousef Shahin is a Chief Disease Prevention and Control, Health Department, United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Jordan. After graduating in Medicine and General Surgery at Zaprozyha Medical University in the Former USSR in 1985, he joined Jordan University of Science and Technology where he completed Master degree in Public Health in 1995.Dr. Shahin was designated to World Health Organization/ Eastern Mediterranean Region from July-December 2011 as Technical Officer on non- communicable diseases. He has publications in medical journals including the Lancet on different health topics mainly diabetes care among Palestine Refugees. Participated in many international conferences and workshops addressing public health related topics.

Lars Rydén is Senior Professor of Cardiology at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden. He specializes in internal medicine and cardiology, with a focus on arrhythmias, cardiac pacing, heart failure and cardiovascular disease related to diabetes. Professor Rydén has published more than 700 scientific papers. Lars Rydén is Dr h.c. at Katowice University, Katowice, Poland and an honorary member of the Royal College of Physicians, London, UK, and several national cardiac societies. Professor Rydén was the President of the Swedish Cardiac Society and chaired the Scientific Board of the Swedish Heart Lung Foundation. He was the President of the European Society of Cardiology, and has served on the Board of the World Heart Federation. He chaired Alert (a system for identification and early assessment concerning new methods in healthcare) for the Swedish Council on Technology Assessment in Health Care. Lars Rydén has chaired numerous expert groups working to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease in Europe in collaboration with the European Society of Cardiology and the European Commission. Professor Rydén chaired the Task Forces that prepared the 2007 and 2013 ESC/EASD Guidelines for Diabetes, Prediabetes and Cardiovascular Disease.

Carani B Sanjeevi MD, PhD is a Professor at the Karolinska Institute (KI) in the Department of Medicine. Dr Sanjeevi obtained his MD from India, PhD from KI in 1994 and did post-doc at the University of Washington in Seattle during 1994-1995 and has been at KI since then. Sanjeevi heads a research group at the Center for Molecular Medicine in KI. He is editor for the 'Immunology of Diabetes' series volumes (1 to 5) published by The Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences and served in the Editorial board of several journals like Diabetologia, Human Immunology, Current Diabetes Reviews Islets etc. Sanjeevi also served in the Council of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) and had won several awards in the field of Diabetes from EASD and diabetes research foundations. He is visiting professor in several universities. He is also the secretary of the Immunology of Diabetes Society. Since 2000, he has served as KI's scientific coordinator for India and promoted Academy-Academy, Academy-Industry and Industry-Industry partnerships between KI and India as well as Sweden and India. Since 2006, he has been Senior advisor to Business Sweden, an agency that belongs to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Govt of Sweden. He is also Senior Advisor to the Innovation Office of KI and promotes Ideas to IPs and find Indian investment partners for such IPs.

While heading a Medical college devoted to Diabetes education as Principal, triply post graduate in Medicine (MD), Nutrition (PGDND) and Radiology (DMRE), 64 years old Dr. Lakshmi K Shankhdhar, holds the credit of establishing North India’s first exclusive Diabetes Clinic in Lucknow, India. He is the fourth Indian to receive Wockhardt-Harvard Medical Excellence Award and Visiting Fellowship of Harvard Medical International, the International Arm of Harvard Medical School (Boston). He has presented several abstracts and Faculty orations in many International conferences on Diabetes and Podiatry, besides chairing some International conferences. Currently he is also reviewer of the journals of American Diabetes Association, namely Diabetes care and Diabetes.

Eustache completed a PhD in immunology from McGill University and did post-doctoral research at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with an award from the Irvington Institute for Immunological Research. Farhad Rezaee is a senior scientist at Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam/University Medical Center Groningen. He received his Ph.D. at Medical University of Leiden in the Netherlands. Dr. Rezaee is a Systems Biologist (clinical genomics and proteomics) with focus on the discovery of defined and convinced clinical Biomarkers for every disease in human blood. His major research focuses are: 1- Obesity, diabetes, CVDs and rare diseases, 2- Biomarkers, 3- link between adipocytes, plasma lipoproteins, pancreas, and liver with respect to energy metabolic disorders, and 4- Systems Biology and age-related diseases, prevention of diseases and/or extend healthy aging. Dr. Rezaee is convinced that Systems Biology is the key to all medical and biological questions as well as all diseases. Last but not least, the 20 years’ experience and excellent Systems Biology expertise of Dr. Rezaee is lead to the development of a novel methodology, which is guarantee for the discovery of defined clinical Biomarkers for every disease in human blood by BCB.

Dr Sebastian Oltean studied clinical medicine at “Iuliu Hatieganu” Medical School in Cluj- Napoca, Romania followed by training in Nephrology and Dialysis. He then moved to USA where in 2004 obtained a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, followed by postdoctoral training at Duke University Medical Center, where he studied connections between alternative splicing regulation and disease. In 2008 he moved to University of Bristol (UK) where he is now a University research fellow and principal investigator. One of his main research themes is the understanding of therapeutic potential of targeting alternative splicing in diabetic nephropathy.

My main research interests include the study of alternative splicing in vivo, coordinated regulation of alternative splicing in physiology and disease as well as manipulation of splice isoforms choice for therapeutic goals. Alternative splicing is the main process that decides the diversity of proteins in our bodies. It is estimated that more than 90% of genes are alternatively spliced in humans and therefore this process affects all cellular properties. The function of the majority of splicing isoforms is not characterized yet. Numerous splicing isoforms have been associated with disease progression in recent years and there is much interest in understanding their contribution to pathogenesis and how this can be reversed.
